South East Wales – Top Holiday Spots UK

South East Wales makes a great location for a holiday. The region includes the country’s capital Cardiff, the Brecon Beacons National Park, the Vale of Glamorgan, the Usk Valley, the Wye Valley, a lovely coastline, and a wealth of cultural and historic attractions.

Cardiff is a friendly city with a lot going on. The dockland area of the city has undergone a great deal of redevelopment over recent years and the area is now home to a large freshwater lake which is used for water sports. This area is known as Cardiff Bay and is also home to a number of different amenities including hotels, bars, restaurants, cafes, the Senedd Building and the Wales Millennium Centre

The Brecon Beacons National Park is a magnet for those interested in hill walking, climbing and other outdoor pursuits. There are trails to suit all abilities, but for those looking for a challenge, the highest mountain in the region is Pen y Fan.

The Vale of Glamorgan has something for everyone, from rolling countryside to a picturesque coastline. This area has plenty of options when it comes to accommodation : camping, glamping, cottages, lodges, holiday parks, B&Bs and hotels.

The Wye Valley is a breathtaking part of the country and, as a result, part of the region has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. The River Wye is one of the longest rivers in the UK; it forms the border between England and Wales for much of its length. The area offers holidaymakers a wealth of things to do from hiking to exploring historical landmarks.

The Usk Valley is another pretty part of South East Wales. This rural and tranquil area is great for lovers of the outdoors. There are many cycle trails passing through this undulating landscape and different water sports are on offer at Llandegfedd Lake. The Monmouthshire and Brecon Canal is navigable for most of its length and is great for walks.
