Brecon Beacons

The Brecon Beacons (Bannau Brycheiniog) is an area in South Wales that includes the Black Mountains to the east and the Black Mountain to the west. The highest peak in the area is Pen-y-Fan.

The Brecon Beacons National Park is one of three national parks in Wales. Its rugged landscape makes it particularly popular with outdoor enthusiasts. There are many opportunities for pony trekking – the perfect way to take in and enjoy the spectacular scenery! The region also has some of the best mountain biking in the UK and, for those who prefer a more sedate activity, there is the Brecon and Monmouthshire canal which provides a tranquil setting for cycling. Walkers and climbers are of course very well catered for in the area.

There are many interesting towns and villages in the Brecon Beacons. The pretty town of Brecon boasts lovely Georgian and Jacobean architecture. Crickhowell is a quaint town with a Norman castle as a focal point in the town centre.

Recommended places to visit in the Brecon Beacons include the Brecon Mountain Railway, the Dan-yr-Ogof Show Caves, Llangorse Lake and numerous castles.
